Features Payments & bonds

Get paid before the keys leave the desk

Deposit on booking, balance before pickup, a bond held the way NZ customers expect — and the awkward over-mileage chat handled by the system, not you. Windcave for local card flows, Stripe Connect alongside.

The lifecycle

One hire, paid end to end

Step through what the customer is charged and what you hold at each stage. The return stage shows over-mileage being worked out automatically — nudge the stepper.

Gateways

Windcave first, Stripe Connect alongside

Windcave is the primary path for NZ card flows — the gateway your customers already recognise at checkout. Stripe Connect sits alongside where your setup needs it, settling funds to your own account. You choose per workspace; the booking flow, deposits, and bonds work the same either way.

Deposits & balances

Money in on booking, balance that chases itself

Take a deposit — a percentage or a fixed amount — the moment a booking is made. The balance is scheduled for before pickup and charged automatically. If a card needs another go, send a one-tap payment link instead of working the phone. Reminders go out on your schedule, not by hand.

Bonds

Security bonds that don’t lapse mid-trip

Hold a bond on the card at pickup — held, not charged. On hires that run long, Glovebox refreshes the authorisation before it expires, so you’re never re-authorising on the morning of a handover or discovering a dead hold on return. Clean return, the bond releases; damage, you deduct against it with the paperwork attached.

After the hire

Over-mileage and extras, worked out for you

Over-mileage is read off the odometer and charged — no maths argument at the counter. Fuel, cleaning, and damage follow the same path: charge the card on file, or send a payment link. Every charge is itemised and lands in your reporting and tax invoices, so the numbers still add up at month end.

Straight questions

Payments, answered

Do I have to use Windcave?
No. Windcave is the primary NZ path, but Stripe Connect works alongside it. Pick what suits your setup.
How do bonds work if a hire runs long?
The authorisation is refreshed before it expires, so the hold stays live for the length of the hire instead of lapsing after a few days.
What happens if a balance payment fails?
It retries on schedule, and you can send the customer a one-tap payment link to settle it themselves.
Is GST handled on all of this?
Yes — NZD pricing with GST, itemised tax invoices, and the usual NZ edge cases like bonds and RUC. See the full feature list →
